Invitation
Online thematic workshop on ‘Strategies for a competitive and sustainable tourism sector’
On Tuesday 21 September (14:00-17:00 CEST), the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform will hold an online thematic workshop on strategies for a competitive and sustainable tourism sector.
Tourism is among the economic sectors hit the hardest by the Covid-19 crisis and that is why it is now at the very heart of recovery efforts in many regions. While Europe is moving fast towards reopening and safe travel is resuming thanks to EU cooperation, it is hight time for local and regional policymakers to rethink tourism, abandon unsustainable patterns that prevailed before the crisis, and enable the sector to bounce back competitively and in a way that responds to the green transformations ahead of us.
By attending this thematic workshop, you will discover how to shape a successful local tourism development strategy and see how Interreg Europe can be a powerful tool for transferring solutions to boost sustainable tourism based on the valorisation of the natural and cultural heritage. You will have the chance to engage in an interactive discussion on good practices in two parallel working groups, the first on ‘Joint branding and multistakeholder involvement programmes’, the second on ‘Developing new geographically distributed and off-season tourism offers’. You will also learn from the European Commission how EU funds and policies will support tourism in your region to deliver on European Green Deal priorities and trigger the recovery.
After the event (17.00-17.45 CEST) we will be available for an on-line policy helpdesk. At the moment we are fully booked. You are nonetheless warmly invited to submit your helpdesk requests in writing by clicking here to receive information on PLP services and tailor-made policy support on any specific policy challenges you are facing.
The final agenda and registration form can be accessed at the event webpage.
As project partners, we kindly ask you to please extend this invitation to your networks. The participation of Structural Funds managing authorities is strongly encouraged.
We look forward to connecting with you online,
Best wishes,
Astrid and Marco
